1959年，15岁的Diana Ross与好友Florence Ballard、Mary Wilson以及Betty McGlown组成一个组合The Primes。1960年，Betty McGlown离队，Barbara Martin加入The Primes.1961年，The Primes签约摩城唱片，正式改名The Supremes。1962年，The Supremes发行首张专辑《Meet The Supremes》，英国专辑榜最高排名第八。同年Barbara Martin离队。1964年，单曲《Where Did Our Love Go?》成为The Supremes的第一首全美冠军单曲，同名专辑全美专辑榜最高第2名。专辑中的歌曲《Where Did Our Love Go》、《Baby Love》与 《Come See About Me》分别成为全美冠军单曲。1965年，专辑《More Hits by The Supremes》中的两首歌曲《Stop!
